How to Get Cheap domain from GoDaddy’s $1.99 offer

Posted by andrew on September 28th, 2005

Everyone knows that GoDaddy.com is a pretty famous domain name registration company. Since they offer $1.99 domain name registration, people are paying more attention to them. But there’s a catch behind that $1.99 domain name registration; it’s valid only for 1 year and you have to make a non-domain name purchase from them. However, it doesn’t mean you have to pay a lot more than the normal price…and I’ll tell you how.

1) 1-year domain name + Website Tonight Economy

- choose your domain name (1 year) and add to cart
- proceed to checkout but on the way, you’ll be prompted for additional offers
- choose Website Tonight Economy (1 month = $4.95)
- checkout
- enter “david” as your promotional code ( -$1)
- Subtotal: $6.19 [$1.99 + ICANN fees $0.25 + $4.95 - $1 ]

2) 1-year domain name + Private Registration Services (Private WHOIS)

- choose your domain name (1 year) and add to cart
- proceed to checkout
- choose 1 year Private Registration Services ($8.95)
- checkout
- enter “paypal10″ as your promotional code (-10%)
- Subtotal: $10.07 [$1.99 + ICANN fees $0.25 + $8.95 - $1.12]

Method 2 is useful if you’d like to have the Private WHOIS feature. Well, these methods don’t make them the cheapest domain of all, but it’s useful for those who wants to renew their domain name with GoDaddy, or those who wanted to avoid the bad service in Yahoo and others. Besides that, it will only work for 1 year registration.

Alternatively, if you have a credit card and you want to avoid all the hassle you can sign up for $6.95 domain name (for the first year, $7.95 per year from 2nd year onwards) from Aplus.net, link shown on the right sidebar of this blog.

Enjoy! :P

Currently, I’m hosting over godaddy as well.

Anyway, good blog you have, keep up the good job, dude!

Thanks for the compliment, SK! Do visit my site more often, k? :)

Hie andrew, are your blog hosted by godaddy as well? i actually get an offer from them. USD6.+ for .com domain. does anyone know if they allow us to manipulate the sub domain name(like if i register anyname.com will they allow us to have few sub domain such as blog.anyname.com and web.anyname.com redirection)….

Hi Jerry, my blog isn’t hosted by GoDaddy, but my domain name is bought from GoDaddy.

As for the subdomain question, I think it depends on your webhosting. I hosted the GoDaddy domain at my own host (the one I’m selling at US$2 per year) and created the subdomains (xxx.yourname.com). I can create as many subdomains as I want…

So it’s not about where you buy the domain name from. By the way, how did you manage to get US$6+ for .com domain from GoDaddy? Mind to share?

i registered an account but didn’t do any purchase. yesterday i received an email from them that their offering 6.++ for .com domain name. The email included a promotional code as well.

I see…so your promotional code is only for those who has accounts with them.

ermm.. i’m not really sure. but i guess anyone can use it. it just state that the promotional code should be insert when doing ordering
