Skype is offering up to 100 free minutes in August to UK and some other EU countries. It’s similar to the previous free minutes giveaway, but this time, they are offering the free minutes every Thursday for users from the UK and Poland:

United Kingdom, Poland
Every Thursday in August (Aug 3, 10, 17, 24, 31)

As for other EU countries, the free minutes giveways are on the following days:

Italy, Spain, Sweden
Every Tuesday in August (Aug 1, 8, 15, 22, 29)

France, Germany
Every Wednesday in August (Aug 2, 9, 16, 23, 30)

Just login to your account at Skype.com and you’ll see the button to claim the free minutes. UK users, the first free 20 minutes is today! (I’ve just collected mine…) :)

All it takes is a minor error in the Windows Registry or a virus infection, and your operating system can become unbootable. But with a properly configured USB flash drive on hand, you’ll always have a compatible replacement no further away than your pocket or keychain. In addition, the flash drive can also provide a secure browser and virus scanner, and lets you take your favorite DVD burning and Office software with you wherever you may go.

All that’s needed is a bootable USB Flash drive with at least 256 MB of storage capacity and a Windows Setup CD. Using the program Bart PE Builder (Freeware), you can install Windows XP on the flash drive, along with other software as needed (and as available space permits).

Well, I haven’t try that and I don’t know whether it’ll really work or not…I’ll leave it to the computer experts out there to do the testing. Do post a comment here when you’ve attempted this. And good luck :D

What Is Konfabulator?

Konfabulator is a JavaScript runtime engine for Windows and Mac OS X that lets you run little files called Widgets that can do pretty much whatever you want them to. Widgets can be alarm clocks, calculators, can tell you your WiFi signal strength, will fetch the latest stock quotes for your preferred symbols, and even give your current local weather.

What sets Konfabulator apart from other scripting applications is that it takes full advantage of today’s advanced graphics. This allows Widgets to blend fluidly into your desktop without the constraints of traditional window borders. Toss in some sliding and fading, and these little guys are right at home in Windows XP and Mac OS X.

I really like Konfabulator because it looks cool yet so useful. More importantly, it’s now free since Yahoo took over. However, don’t get too carried away because it’s really a resource hungry application (don’t blame me when your computer slows down and work like a snail =P ).
