Firefox Referral Program Now Available!

Logged in to my Google Account and found out that the Firefox Referral Program is now available internationally! As you can see, I’ve installed the code on the right sidebar —->> ( I hope this arrow is useful in some way :P

When a user you’ve referred to Firefox plus Google Toolbar runs Firefox for the first time, you’ll receive up to $1 in your account, depending on the user’s location.

Google has just introduced a referral program for their Adsense advertising solution. Since Google earned a huge profit from advertising, this is no surprise…but a good news for web publishers, bloggers, you name it!

It used to be so difficult to apply for Adsense, but now….everyone can apply for one.

Ok, more about the referral program. You can place the banner on your site, and when people sign up from clicking your banner, you’ll get $100. Well, not exactly….you have to wait for that person to earn $100 from their Google Adsense first… before you are eligible for $100 reward. Ah! Good marketing skills, Google!

Anyway, for bit torrent users, sometimes, you might come across BT sites that require you to sign up on their website, and maintain a good upload/download ratio in order to download stuff from them. However, here’s a trick to bypass that….by making your upload/download ratio very high so that you can easily download anything you want.

Reducing spam by icon generator?

These are the two websites for generating email icons. So instead of publishing superman@hotmail.com or superman@gmail.com, your email address will be displayed on an image (so it’s not clickable and spam robots won’t be able to get your email address).

Everyone knows that GoDaddy.com is a pretty famous domain name registration company. Since they offer $1.99 domain name registration, people are paying more attention to them. But there’s a catch behind that $1.99 domain name registration; it’s valid only for 1 year and you have to make a non-domain name purchase from them. However, it doesn’t mean you have to pay a lot more than the normal price…and I’ll tell you how.

1) 1-year domain name + Website Tonight Economy

- choose your domain name (1 year) and add to cart
- proceed to checkout but on the way, you’ll be prompted for additional offers
- choose Website Tonight Economy (1 month = $4.95)
- checkout
- enter “david” as your promotional code ( -$1)
- Subtotal: $6.19 [$1.99 + ICANN fees $0.25 + $4.95 - $1 ]

2) 1-year domain name + Private Registration Services (Private WHOIS)

- choose your domain name (1 year) and add to cart
- proceed to checkout

Method 2 is useful if you’d like to have the Private WHOIS feature. Besides that, it will only work for 1 year registration.

Alternatively, if you have a credit card and you want to avoid all the hassle you can sign up for $6.95 domain name (for the first year, $7.95 per year from 2nd year onwards) from Aplus.net, link shown on the right sidebar of this blog.

Free Visitors Map Counter

I really like the display of a map on my site, showing where my visitors came from. I’ve tried hunting for it last time, and found these two very nice one:

ClustrMap
This is the first one I’ve found, been using it for quite some time. It was previously known as HitMaps (for only a limited number of testers), but they’ve expanded the project and now it’s called ClustrMap. It was closed registration earlier (only by invitations), but the last time I’ve checked it, it’s free for registration by the public now (as from 13th of September). Sample of the map? Look at the right sidebar of this blog.

What does it do?

We provide you with a link to a thumbnail map, like the one you see in the lower left of this page; when it loads, it increments a counter and shows the locations of all the visitors to your page, cumulatively (yes, even for ridiculously large numbers); clicking on it reveals a larger world map display, and (optionally) lets you zoom in on the different continents.

What’s the catch?

For light/casual users (< 1000 visitors daily, with no cumulative limit) there's no catch: the service is really free, forever (not just for a 'trial period'), and stores cumulative totals up to many hundreds of thousands of visitors and beyond. To pay for the servers needed to scale up the service, big/commercial users get extra features and are allowed to process a larger number of visitors. See the products page for details.

Conclusion: Not suitable for very heavy users. Suitable for me.

GeoLoc
This one is really cool….The design is so nice and the animation….wow. Just beautiful. The main site is in French, so you might need a bit of help by Babel Fish. But if you’re good at guessing, well, you can try signing up without Babel Fish translation (it’s pretty easy). Limited to 500 connections per day (meaning 500 page views? or 500 visitors? I’m not sure, can someone comfirm this?). Sample of the map? Take a look at this site: Link

I’ve only managed to register for one account. When I tried signing up for another one, somehow I can’t validate my email address. I get this instead:

Domain name price war

Price wars by top domain name companies… But I think I’ll wait for a better price before purchasing my domain. I couldn’t think of a suitable domain name to use when boringest informed me about the $1.99 (or was it cheaper?) per year domain name for up to 5 years by Yahoo!, and it ended just a day or two after that day! Darn…missed out the chance.

Anyway, the cheapest domain name so far is still by Yahoo! (you’ll know why if you continue reading) , from this link here (please note that the =COFFEE is not my referral ID or anything..don’t know what it stands for…). Credits to blewtooth for this link. $4.98 per year for up to 5 years. But after that, you have to stick with them for whatever price they’ll charge (judging by how difficult to transfer your domain name –> read here for more info).

Next, $6.95 domain name by Aplus.net. They previously had a promotion of $3.95 domain name (as advertised in my blog before) but it has just ended not long ago and the price has increased to $6.95 since then. The catch? It’s only for the first year (and only limited to one domain name per customer). It’ll revert to $7.95 per year after that. However, worry not as Aplus.net is widely known for it’s good customer support. The only setback is they only accept payment via credit card.

Finally, $1.99/ year domain name by the famous GoDaddy.com. Sounds like it’s the cheapest among all, but the actual fact is that it’s more expensive than the rest. The reason for this is that you have to make a non-domain purchase from them before you can get that price for the domain name (meaning you have to buy hosting plans, etc from them…). Well, I thought most hosting plans come with free domain name as well? So this is not really a good deal or anything. Without any non-domain purchase, the price for a domain name is $8.95 per year.

*Note: I’m referring to .com and .net domain names.

Well, the final decision is always yours. As for me, I’ll wait for the best deal to come *fingers crossed*. I’ll update on my blog if I managed to find a really good deal for a domain name. Cheers!

Here’s an interesting website, whereby you can find out more information about flight seats. Choose your airline, then the model of the airplane and voila, you’ll get the seating plan! Now you can choose the seats which you like the most; more leg room, near the aisle, near to the lavatory, etc…

This is useful for those who travel a lot by airplane. I’ve tried it before and the seating plans are accurate. But bear in mind, not all good seats are available for you. Some are pre-booked earlier, so all the best!

How to create Favourites Icon

See the icon next to my url in the address bar? Thanks to this guide, I’ve managed to create my very own icon.

It’s quite a straight forward guide, so hope it’ll be helpful for those who wanted to change their url icon. Oh ya, it’s also called the Favourites Icon (because that’s the icon you see when you mark a website as “Favourites” in Internet Explorer.

Do let me know if there’s any other better method to create the icon. Cheers!
