Dell Axim X50v price dropped to its lowest so far

Posted by andrew on July 31st, 2005

Saw this on Dell’s Online Site:

The price is quite tempting for this feature-packed Pocket PC PDA. This Dell Axim x50v has a VGA screen, 624Mhz processor, wifi, Bluetooth and etc…for only RM1470?

Is this a sign of a new Dell Axim Pocket PC model coming soon? I heard the Dell Axim x70 is probably the next model. Probably with the latest Windows Mobile 5 as it’s operating system? Lots of speculation at the moment… Wondering if I should get this to replace my trusty Ipaq H4150. This Axim x50v is way better.. Hmm…

Checked the price in Dell UK and found out it’s much more expensive (as expected).

Review:
From The Gadgeteer:

Pros:
3D Graphics accelerator chip
Comfortable in hand
WiFi & Bluetooth
Dual memory card slots

Cons:
Brief battery life
Different serial connector on this model means incompatibility with older cables
Buttons on left side are easily activated

Inconsiderate Smokers Deserve to Die

Posted by andrew on July 31st, 2005

Why inconsiderate smokers deserve to die?

Firstly, they smoke in public places like restaurants and supermarkets. It’s ok if they want to smoke, but why can’t they smoke elsewhere where no one is around? Why must they smoke in public, where innocent children, pregnant women, old citizens and etc are around them. You smokers like that, if you want to die early, go die yourself. Don’t pull innocent non-smokers along with you to your grave. I once heard that second hand smoke is more dangerous than smoking cigarette directly (something to do with the cigarette filter?). I guess that explains the reason why some people who smoke die at old age but a lot of non-smokers who stayed with smokers die at early ages?

Secondly, pollution. Most smokers threw their cigarette butts everywhere, ashes everywhere… Come on, if you’re too lazy to find the right place to smoke, or too lazy to get an ashtray, then don’t smoke! And no, toilet is not a designated place to smoke, it’s toilet, for goodness sake. It’s built for certain purposes (you know what they are), not for smoking. Besides, I would rather take in the smelly toilet perfume scent than to stand a higher risk of dying early from second hand smoke.

Thirdly, cigarette burns. Even XiaXue , the popular Singaporean blogger blogged about her anger in getting cigarette burns before. Although I never personally experienced it, I’m sure it’s not anything pleasant at all. This is another reason to hate inconsiderate smokers ( for not being careful enough).

There are many more reasons to hate such smokers. Note that I kept on using the term “inconsiderate smokers’. This is because I knew not all smokers are bad. Smoke is bad for health (that’s for sure), I’ll certainly not encourage anyone to smoke, but I still have friends who are smokers. However, if you’re a smoker and you’re reading this, please stop smoking and think of your loved ones around you. Do you really want them to lose someone they loved? But if you can’t stop smoking, please…at least, be considerate to the others. Good luck and happy smoking please stop smoking!

This goes to the Hall of Shame because today I met two buggers who smoked right in front of everybody and were happily blowing the deadly second hand smoke to everyone.

Free 10-Mins SkypeOut (VoIP) International Call (Day 3)

Posted by andrew on July 30th, 2005

Today is Free SkypeOut Day 3! And this is my third post about this free VoIP service.

I realised I did not provide much details about Skype, how to get the free minutes and how useful VoIP is.

What is VoIP?
If you don’t know what VoIP (or Voice over Internet Protocol) is, just take it as an internet telephone. Usually, PC to PC calls are free, whereas calls to landline and mobile phones are at a very low rate (much lower than normal telephone call rates). If you want to get more technical about VoIP, head over to HowStuffWorks to find out what it actually is, how it works and etc.

What is Skype?
So what is Skype? Skype is just one of the providers of VoIP service. There are a lot of VoIP services out there, but I’ve only tried Skype before. To be honest, I’m really impressed with the voice quality! (even though it was quite bad sometimes, probably due to my cheap headset). What other stuffs do you need for you to use Skype? Very simple, you need your internet connection (preferably broadband), a headset, microphone, computer (how can you forget that! :D ) and you’re all set to go!

You just need to purchase SkypeOut credit to make phone calls from your PC using Skype to other landline/mobile phone numbers all around the world(it’s really cheap, check out their rates per minute). Otherwise, just use the free PC to PC call. Recently, they introduced services like SkypeIn (where you can have your own Skype telephone number so people can call you from anywhere) and VoiceMail. Pretty cool, huh?

Free 10 minutes SkypeOut
Today is Day 3 of this free giveaway. I think it’s very useful for those who’ve never tried SkypeOut before. Use this chance to make calls to landline and mobile phone and test the quality for yourself. Just collect the free minutes (worth 0.20 euro) under your “My Accounts” page. So far, I’ve collected 0.60 euro under this free SkypeOut day promotion.

For those without Skype:
Check out Skype here. (affiliate link)

For those with Skype:
Receive calls from old-fashioned telephones on your computer with a SkypeIn number. And we’ll throw in voicemail for free.www.skype.com (affilliate link)
